Waitemata Endoscopy provides diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy at our North Shore and West Auckland centres. Your specialist will recommend the procedure best suited to your symptoms, referral information and medical history.
Common procedures
- Colonoscopy – examines the large bowel and allows biopsies, polyp removal and treatment of selected bleeding lesions.
- Gastroscopy – examines the oesophagus, stomach and first part of the small intestine.
- Flexible sigmoidoscopy – examines the rectum and lower colon.
- Endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) – combines endoscopy and ultrasound to assess the gastrointestinal tract and nearby organs.
Treatment during endoscopy
Depending on the procedure and findings, treatment may include biopsy, polyp removal, endoscopic mucosal resection, haemorrhoid treatment, control of bleeding or dilation of a narrowing.
