Self-Funded Colonoscopy and Gastroscopy

At a glance: Private health insurance is not required. Self-funded gastroscopy starts from NZD $2,000 and colonoscopy starts from NZD $3,000.

You do not need private health insurance to have a procedure at Waitemata Endoscopy. We welcome self-funded patients seeking timely access to private colonoscopy, gastroscopy and specialist endoscopy services in Auckland.

Private care may provide earlier access than public pathways, where waiting times depend on clinical priority, eligibility and available capacity. Our team can explain the process, provide an estimate of costs and help arrange the most appropriate procedure.

Indicative self-funded costs

Gastroscopy

Self-funded gastroscopy starts from NZD $2,000.

Colonoscopy

Self-funded colonoscopy starts from NZD $3,000.

These are indicative starting prices. The final cost may vary depending on whether procedures are combined, whether biopsies or polyps are removed, any additional treatment required, pathology fees, the specialist performing the procedure and your individual medical needs. Our team will provide a personalised estimate before your booking is confirmed.

No health insurance required

You may book as a self-funded patient if you do not have private health insurance, have an insurance exclusion, are not eligible for publicly funded care, or would prefer private assessment rather than waiting through the public pathway.

Do I need a referral?

A GP or specialist referral is helpful because it provides relevant medical information and helps us confirm which procedure is appropriate. However, appropriate self-referrals are also welcome. Our clinical team will review the information you provide and may request further details or recommend GP assessment when needed.

Why choose private endoscopy?

  • Potentially earlier access to assessment and treatment
  • Choice of North Shore or West Auckland locations
  • Experienced gastroenterologists and endoscopists
  • Clear information about expected costs
  • Direct communication with our booking team
  • Coordinated follow-up after your procedure

When to seek urgent medical attention

Private endoscopy booking is not a substitute for urgent medical assessment. Seek urgent medical care for heavy or ongoing bleeding, black bowel motions, vomiting blood, severe or worsening abdominal pain, fainting, marked weakness, breathlessness or rapidly worsening symptoms.
